Things to do and see in Lincoln

Lincoln is a beautiful historic city with an impressive mix of medieval landmarks, cobbled streets, museums, independent shops and attractive waterfront areas. Whether you are visiting for a day or a weekend, there is plenty to explore.

One of Lincoln's most famous attractions is Lincoln Cathedral, a magnificent Gothic building that dominates the city skyline. Dating back to the 11th century, the cathedral is filled with impressive architecture, stained-glass windows and fascinating details, including the famous Lincoln Imp.

Just across Castle Square is Lincoln Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068. Visitors can walk along the medieval walls for fantastic views across the city, explore the Victorian Prison and discover Lincoln's copy of the Magna Carta.

A trip to Lincoln would not be complete without walking up Steep Hill. This picturesque cobbled street connects the city centre with the historic Cathedral Quarter and is lined with independent shops, cafés and characterful old buildings. At the top, Bailgate is another lovely area to wander around, with boutiques, restaurants and historic architecture.

For a change of pace, head to Brayford Waterfront, one of the city's most attractive places for a stroll. The waterfront is surrounded by restaurants and cafés, making it a pleasant spot to relax and watch the boats on the water.

History enthusiasts can also visit the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, which explores life in the county from the 18th century onwards and includes an impressive collection of agricultural, industrial and military exhibits.

Another fascinating attraction is the International Bomber Command Centre, which tells the stories of those affected by Bomber Command during the Second World War. Its Memorial Spire and peaceful gardens also offer wonderful views towards Lincoln Cathedral.

With its combination of history, shopping, culture and beautiful architecture, Lincoln makes an excellent destination for visitors of all ages.
